There are many opportunities for those who want to volunteer their time with Girls Incorporated of Guilford County. We have a great need for individuals willing to work on committees. We have a spot that is right for you. Let us know how you would like to participate in helping us to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and boldSM .  
 

Girls Inc. provides research-based, age-appropriate programs to girls out of school and during the summer to assist them in reaching their fullest potential as women."

We have volunteer opportunities for every commitment level – from a one time-event commitment, to a one-to-one mentoring relationship that requires 2 hours per month, to a commitment to facilitate a workshop for a semester.

  • We need guest speakers – especially women in interesting careers.

  • We need women to be mentors for our teens.

  • We need assistance with special events.

  • We need adults to assist with programming in specialty areas such as sewing lessons or helping to establish a Girls Inc. chorus.

  • We need adults to help chaperone field trips.

 

 

Volunteers help us help girls. Most of our volunteers are women, but men also volunteer. (We want our girls to know that men care about their lives, too!) Minimum commitment of 4 weeks.

 

Program Facilitators 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Volunteers and interns will facilitate workshops for girls using the Girls Incorporated curriculum and activities provided by the Program Manager. Lessons will vary, depending on the age group of the students. During the school year, our teen group will meet once a month on a week night from for 2 hours and the youth groups (6 to 15) meet on Saturdays For 2 hours. Training is provided and will be arranged by the Program Manager. Summer camp volunteers and interns will work their volunteer or mandated hours during the day based on a scheduled created by the Summer Camp Director.

 

Activity Assistant (on-going) – Assist facilitators and program staff with the execution of the tasks needed to facilitate the girls program. Duties include snack preparation, game playing with the girls, arts and crafts and poster creation. Using a digital camera and/or a video camera is also required. This position is available Saturday from10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Assistants are also needed in the summer camp programs.

 

 

Administrative Assistant – (Interns) Intern to serve as an assistant to the Director. Minimum commitment of one semester.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Read email, Prioritize and categorize

  • Return phone calls

  • Produce brochures and flyers

  • Update website (Microsoft Office Live) – will train, very simple web page.

  • Enter data, type letters, labels and other mailing documents.

 

Newsletter Publisher: - We are looking for a volunteer to create a quarterly newsletter. Volunteer should have some publication/page layout experience. The newsletter will be created in Microsoft Publisher or Word. Volunteer will work with youth in writing the articles.

 

High School Community Service: Teenage girls from the age of 14 and up can obtain their required service hours at Girls Inc. during the school year as well as the summer.

 

Grant Proposal Writer: Minimum commitment of one RFP

Duties & Responsibilities:

This volunteer would have some experience with writing proposals and proposal budgets, following the requirements of a request for proposal (RFP). They would assist in researching and writing the grants.. You will work with a committee or the Executive Director.

 

One Time Events

 

Residential Girls Summit (June, one week) - Give a one-hour workshop on a topic such as economic literacy, sexual health, body image, hip hop dance, colleges and careers, or healthy relationships; solicit prize donations and food donations; help with set-up and clean-up; be a part of the planning committee; or help out on the closing of the camp. Volunteer to help out during the day with various activities.

 

Friendship Tea (October, annually) – This is our annual luncheon where we honor an extraordinary woman in the community. We need volunteers to serve on the planning committee, as well as volunteers to help out the day of the event; help with event planning; solicitation of prize donations; set-up and clean-up of the event; and same-day registration. Planning meetings begin in May.

 

Guest Presenter: (Minimum commitment of one to two hours.) - Speak to the girls about your career or life experience, lead an activity, teach a skill, or host a field trip at your work. We are looking for volunteers to be guest speakers on the following topics: Relationships, Media, Sports, Girl Empowerment, technology, and art. This can be done once or several different times, this is not a continuous position. Check with Program Managers to set up a presentation.

Adults needed to serve as committee members. Committee members are responsible for assisting in the growth of the organization. They would not have the same fiduciary responsibilities as a board member. Their term would be self-determined. Committees available are:

Friends of Girls Inc.

A group of individuals needed to serve as members and managers of the Friends of Girls Inc. The Friends is a volunteer association dedicated to supporting Girls Inc. of Guilford County in their efforts to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold, through fundraising, friend-raising, and advocacy. Minimum commitment is self-determined. Goal is to engage a minimum of 100 individuals who will donate $10.00 per month to Girls Inc. of Guilford County.

 

Marketing & Public Relations Committee Members

GIGC needs individuals to assist with promoting Girls Inc. in the media and in the community; sending out press releases, marketing collateral and performing other marketing activities. Required skills are:

- Ability to communicate well in written and oral formats

- Experience doing marketing/communications work and outreach.

Program Focus and Strategies Committee

Define Program Focus and Strategies [Outreach, Satellite and/or Facility]

  5. Define how to evaluate and appreciate volunteers

 


BOARDS

Advisory Board

Adults needed to serve as members of the GIGC Advisory Board. Advisory Board  responsibilities include providing expertise to help support the organization, encouraging other community businesses to sponsor our students, workshops and summer programs. Serve as advocates for Girls Incorporated programs, promoting the organization whenever the opportunity presents itself. They would not have the same fiduciary responsibilities as a board member. Minimum commitment is 6 months.

 

Board Members

Adults, eighteen and up, needed to serve as board members. Ask for specific information concerning board responsibilities and set up an interview with the standing board. Minimum commitment is 1 year. (To be considered for board duty, one must serve on a committee for a minimum of 4 months.)
