For 145 years, Girls Inc. has put girls first. The first Girls Club was founded in Waterbury, Ct. in 1864 and later changed the name to Girls Incorporated.
Girls Inc. has provided significant and meaningful resources towards supporting the growth and development and well-being of girls. While times have changed, the essence of Girls Inc. has been constant-A dedication to nurturing the spirits of girls and young women. The Girls Inc. mission has evolved over the years to a simple and powerful mandate: Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
This statement carries with it a rich history of dedicated service and progressive social action that lays the foundation for the continuing success and growth of Girls Inc. As Girls Inc. moves forward, its focus is firmly in girls-ensuring their inherent rights and supporting their immediate and future goals.
Girls Incorporated of Guilford County is a youth serving organization whose primary goal is to offer school-based and out of school programs led by trained staff to girls in diverse communities throughout Guilford County serving girls from six years of age through eighteen years of age, all backgrounds, races and economic levels because we believe that all girls are at risk. We also provide parent and girl workshops and programs for girls in neighborhood settings such as community centers and churches, and summer camp programs.
